Firemedix first responder training is a comprehensive course designed for community fire fighters and those individuals most likely to be the first rescuers on the scene of an emergency. The program reflects the latest techniques in first aid and CPR. First Responder provides professional rescuers in British Columbia with the information and skills they need to respond to medical emergencies with confidence. Once completed, there is an option to further your first aid knowledge and training through our FR-EMR Bridging course. Licenses will be issued by EMALB within two weeks of your exam date.
Role of the First Responder, Anatomy and Physiology, Rescue Scene Assessment, Primary Survey, conscious/unconscious choking, artificial respiration, cardiovascular emergencies, AED, deadly bleeding, shock, burns, minor wound care, medical/behavioral emergencies, patient packaging, spinal packaging, first aid kits, enclosed spaces, infectious diseases, bone & joint injuries, chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries, poisons, environmental emergencies, maternity and multi-casualty incidents.
2020 Dates: nights are from 1800-2200 and days are from 0800-1700
January 10 night 11/12 day and 17 night 18/19 day
March 13 night 14/15 day and March 20 night March 21/22 day
May 8 night 9/10 day and May 15 night 16/17 day
Aug 14 night 15/16 day and Aug 21 night 22/23 day
October 9 night 10/11 day and October 16 night 17/18 day
December 4 2019 night 5/6 day and 11 2019 night 12/13 day
To be eligible for the challenge/recertification class you must have a valid FR certificate or license, or have a valid OFA 3 certificate or St. Johns Advanced First Responder certificate. Students will attend the second weekend of the class and take the exam on the same day as the full course students. A manual is provided and exams are included in the fee.
